One of the best parts about summer is getting to spend time outside in the beautiful weather!If you live in the midwest like me, you know how nice it feels to step outside after 6 long months of cold winter weather. Here is a list of some fun things to do outside in summer!
1. Go Geocaching
Get the Geocaching app on your phone and start searching for hidden “treasures”.
2. Hammocking in the park
Hammocking in the park is one of the most relaxing summer activities. I always try reading in my hammock, but I usually end up wrapping myself in a cocoon and falling asleep! Here is the hammock I love and have been using the last couple years.
3. Look for constellations
Looking at the stars and trying to find constellations is a really fun summer night activity. Get an app like SkyView on your phone to easily identify different stars and constellations.
4. Go to the beach
If you’re lucky enough to live near a beach, spend a day laying in the sand and wading in the water.

There are usually a lot of free summer activities going on in town that we don’t even know about. During summer in my town, there are sometimes concerts in the park and street fairs.

Grab your tent and go to a local campground. If you don’t have a tent, you could always fill your car with blankets and pillows and camp in there!

Yummy fried food and local vendors, what’s not to love about the street fair?

This is an activity my sisters and I love doing when we get together. You pick a category like “cupcakes” then you each make a different kind of cupcake. We judge equally on presentation and taste!

This is an idea I found on Tik Tok and really want to try. Each friend brings a themed food item from the category you pick. For example, if you pick “charcuterie boards”, then one friend could bring a chocolate board, one hamburger board, one cheese board, etc.

The cheaper version of visiting a vineyard to go wine tasting. Bring all different kinds of wine to taste test. This is a perfect girls night summer activity!

You don’t have to spend a ton of money to have fun this summer. Here are some fun and cheap summer activities for adults!
35. Make up your own game
If you’ve ever seen the show New Girl you’ve probably seen them having fun playing the drinking game True American (which they completely made up as a friend group). Try making your own game up with friends!
36. Watch the sunset/sunrise
The most beautiful view in the world is completely free.
If you’re bored this summer, check out local businesses that you volunteer for. Some ideas are animal shelters, food pantries, libraries, and museums.

Learn something new this summer by taking a free online class. Sites like Coursera have a lot of different free online classes.
39. Mail a handwritten letter
It always feels good to receive a nice handwritten letter. Mail a letter out to your friends or family.

Yoga is a great activity to help improve your physical and mental health. You don’t even need a mat or instructor to start. There a lot of great free Youtube videos that can help you practice yoga at home.

Get outside, touch your feet to the earth, take your dogs with, feel the sun on your face!

43. Plan a roadtrip
You can go on the road trip too but sometimes planning trips is half the fun:)

I went to a lot of drive in movies with my husband this summer and it made me wish I grew up in the 50’s.

Set up a romantic campsite right in your backyard.
46. Have a “mukbang”
A mukbang sounds really weird, but it’s actually a lot of fun. It originated in Korea and it is where people film themselves eating a lot of different kinds of food. My version of a date night mukbang is to get a certain type of food from different fast food restaurants, then rate and discuss those foods with your partner. You might get fries from Mcdonalds, Chick fil A, Burger King, Culvers, and Sonic, then you would rate the fries from best to worst.

If you live in a town that is driving distance from a ghost town, go check it out! It’s crazy reading the history of these ghost towns and then seeing the real thing in person. Not the most romantic summer date, but still a fun adventure!
